English:
Our focus story this term is King Kong by Anthony Browne. Throughout the unit, the children will develop their understanding of a range of writing techniques, including fronted adverbials, direct speech and the passive voice. By the end of the unit, they will use these skills to create their own action-packed adventure story, inspired by the themes and style of King Kong.
Maths:
During this term, our Year 5 children will be developing their understanding of place value within 1,000,000, as well as exploring the four operations and fractions.
Our Year 6 children will be extending their understanding of place value within 10,000,000, alongside developing their skills in the four operations, fractions and imperial measures.
Religious Education:
In Religious Education this term, we are exploring the Year 6 Creation and Covenant branch. Through a range of scripture, the children will deepen their understanding of the Creation account, considering what it teaches us about humanity, our relationship with God and God’s redemptive plan. The children will also have opportunities to reflect creatively on these themes through thought-provoking artwork, expressing their own ideas and responses to the scripture they study. In History, the children are exploring our Vikings unit, considering the key question: Were the Vikings raiders or traders? Throughout the unit, they will examine a range of evidence to develop their understanding of Viking life, journeys and impact on Britain.
In Science, we will be studying Mixtures and Separation. The children will have plenty of opportunities to take part in practical investigations, developing their understanding of processes such as sieving, filtering and combining different substances.
