The Cathedral School

Vision, Virtues and Mission Statement

Love Jesus, Love Others, Love Yourself - A School of JOY

Our Catholic Life underpins all aspects at The Cathedral School of St Mary. We aim to keep Christ at the centre of all we do, in our prayer life, in our curriculum, in the local community and in our relationships with parents and the clergy.

“The mission of Catholic schools and teachers is to develop an understanding of all that is true, good and beautiful.” Pope Francis

At The Cathedral School we aim to keep Christ at the centre through:

  • Demonstrating a Catholic ethos which is evidence and open to experience by all who enter the school.
  • Promoting Gospel virtues and values and the teachings of the Catholic Church as an integral part of their mission.
  • Modelling an example inspired by the image and life of Christ.
  • Committing to helping all of our pupils find their own vocation in life and encouraging pupils to realise their unique God-given gifts and talents.
  • Forming an integral part of the communion of the local and universal church.
  • Providing an engaging and reflective religious education which is integrated into every aspect of the curriculum and life of the school.

Mission Statement

The Cathedral School of St Mary promotes the Catholic ethos of the school so that all aspects of our daily life, worship, and the curriculum, reflect the person of Jesus Christ, his love and his teachings. With love, care and compassion, we introduce our children to God. God loves every one of us and we ensure that our whole school family feel valued and loved. We encourage children to become citizens that can change the world. It is our mission to promote a love of learning and a love of self so that every child that leaves us is equipped to leave their mark on our planet.

We nurture today’s minds for tomorrow’s future, remembering that God made me as I am.

Through Him, all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26)

Our Gospel Virtues

At The Cathedral School of St Mary, we use our Gospel Virtues to inform and reflect on our behaviours. The virtues are attitudes, dispositions and habits which fulfil our intellect and will, and which order our emotions according to reason and faith - or as the children will tell you, the virtues make us more like who we are and who God wants us to be.
